| What is Asphalt Injection? | |
Concrete pavement seems to be robust. However, in long time, rain water infiltrate under the concrete slab and this water and the repetitive vehicle loads induce pumping action and at last occasionally caves are formed. In these cases, blown asphalt is filled up and if subsidence of slab exists, the slab is pushed up by the pressure of blown asphalt. This repairing method is called Asphalt Infiltration Method. | Infiltration in operation
| The Procedure of Asphalt Infiltration | |
Blow out the scraps of concrete by compressed air jet.--> | <--Drill a hole per about 4-5 m2.
Infiltrate the heated blown asphalt into the drilled hole. When the infiltration is sufficient, asphalt spill off from the rest of holes. Then plug the spilling holes by wooden stoppers to protect the loss of asphalt and also to keep clean the pavement surface. These are the working procedure. Finally, inspect the deformation of slab under a load using Benkelman beam and make sure that the deformation is less than specified value.
