In Place RECycling Method
IPREC Method
What is IPREC Method ?
IPREC is a recycling method for recycling aged pavement which is usually to be completely wasted. By IPREC, pavement, base course and a part of subgrade soil are treated in place and recycled as the base course for new pavements.
This construction method is a kind of base course treatment using cement, lime and etc. as treatment agent. A special type of stabilizer is used for mixing.
An example of IPREC application
IPREC method is categorized into following 4 kinds depending on the condition of existing roads and their peripheral.
A. In case the formation level have
to be the same as existing roads. I.The asphalt mixture of existing
surface course is to be wasted II.The asphalt mixture of existing
surface course is to be recycled
B.In case the formation can be freely
decided regardless of existing
formation level I.The asphalt mixture of existing
surface course is to be wasted II.The asphalt mixture of existing
surface course is to be recycled
When selecting the kinds of IPREC methods, followings are taken in consideration.
  • Peripheral conditions of project section (the floor height level of fronting residences, height level of ditches, the height level of adjacent roads)
  • The difference of the required quantity of treating agent between the case of utilizing asphalt mixture of surface course and the case of no utilization.
  • The required efforts of milling off surface asphalt mixture.
  • The condition of wastes stock places (distance, acceptability of asphalt mixtures)
  • The procedure of construction.
