Concrete pavements are mainly used for arterial roads where traffic is heavy. Though their construction costs are rather high as compared to asphalt pavements, they have a merit of long life durability. The existence of joint may be displeasing. However, continuous steel reinforced concrete pavements with no joint are available at where the possibility of re-digging is scarce. As a method of decreasing the construction cost, there is slip form construction method that enables the construction without set forms. This method displays its great power if the area or length is large.
The another drawback of concrete pavement is that it takes longer time to construct. However, now there is RCCP (Roller Compacted Concrete Pavement) method which enables rapid construction and is able to open road for traffic in the day.
